Contest Rules

Fastest Fingers in the West (Knitting and Crochet) Contest

Preregistration Not Required

Saturday, July 27 at 2 p.m.
Sunday, July 28 at 2 p.m.

Heritage Hall Front Porch (Exhibition Hall)

Junior Division: Age 18 and Under

Senior Division: Age 19 and Older

Contest Rules:

  • Contest is Open to All Ages.
  • The contest is a seven (7) minute timed event.
  • All materials will be supplied.
  • The contestant will cast on 20 stitches for knitting and 20 chain stitches for crochet prior to start.
  • Time begins after all contestants have cast on 20 stitches and the judge says “start”.
  • Knitting contestants will alternately knit 1 row, purl 1 row and crochet contestants will do single crochet until time is called.
  • Incomplete and dropped stitches will be deducted.
  • The winning knitter will knit the most rows with correct tension and workmanship. The winning crocheter will crochet the most rows with correct tension and workmanship in the allotted time.


Longest Potato Peel Contest

Preregistration Not Required

Friday, July 26 at 1 p.m.
Saturday, July 27 at 1 p.m.
Sunday, July 28 at 1 p.m.

Heritage Hall Front Porch (Exhibition Hall)

Junior Division: Age 18 and Under

Senior Division: Age 19 and Older

Contest Rules:

  • Contest is open to all ages.
  • Contestants will be given a potato and potato peeler.
  • When time begins, the contestant will peel the potato.
  • The contestant with the longest potato peel wins.


Team Jigsaw Puzzle Contest

Preregistration is recommended but not required

Adult (Age 19 and older) Team Contest: Saturday, July 27 at 3 p.m.

Youth (Age 18 and under) Team Contest: Sunday, July 28 at 4 p.m.

Heritage Hall Contest Area (Exhibition Hall)

Contest Rules:

  • Teams will consist of a maximum of 4 participants. If the team consists of adult and youth members, the team will compete in the adult category.
  • Each team receives the same puzzle.
  • No one is allowed to see the puzzle before the contest begins.
  • Puzzle boxes are placed face down.
  • When the judge says, “being puzzling,” contestants may turn over the puzzle box and begin to assemble the puzzle.
  • The first team to correctly assemble the puzzle wins.
  • If no team has correctly assembled the puzzle after sixty (60) minutes, the team with the fewest number of unassembled pieces wins.In the event of a tie, teams are given five additional minutes to work on the puzzle.The first team to correctly assemble the puzzle or with the fewest number of unassembled pieces wins at the end of the five minutes wins.
  • No outside assistance, including devices, to teams is permitted.
  • Team members and members of the audience are not allowed to distract or approach the team tables.


First Annual Arapahoe County Fair Stick Horse Hurdle Jumping Contest

Friday, July 26 at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Saturday, July 27 at 3:30 p.m.
Sunday, July 28 at 4:30 p.m.

Contest Rules
• Contest is open to youth contestants.
• Each contestant will select a stick horse.
• When the official says, "gallop," contestants will "ride" their horses through the course, jumping the hurdles.
• Deductions will be assessed for knocking off the hurdle poles.
• The event will be timed.
• Winners are the contestants with the most points (fastest times minus any deductions) in their age division.
